About the Author
Ricky W. Griffin serves as Distinguished Professor of Management and Blocker Chair in Business at Texas A&M. He received his Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the University of Houston. He served as editor of the Journal of Management and as an officer in the Southwest Regional Division of the Academy of Management, the Southern Management Association, and the Research Methods Division and the Organizational Behavior Division of the Academy of Management. Dr. Griffin spent three years on the faculty at the University of Missouri (Columbia) before moving to Texas A&M University in 1981. His research interests include workplace violence, employee health and well-being in the workplace, and workplace culture. A well-respected author recognized for his organizational behavior and management research, Dr. Griffin has written many successful textbooks, including: Management, Organizational Behavior, HR, Management Skills, Introduction to Business, and International Business.

Gregory Moorhead is an associate professor of management at Arizona State University. He attended Texas Tech University and the University of Houston. He earned his BSIE, M.B.A., and Ph.D. in organizational behavior and management. He joined the faculty at ASU in 1978 and has taught courses in management principles, management policy and strategy, personnel management, and operations management, as well as graduate seminars in organizational behavior and international management. Dr. Moorhead has written numerous articles that have been published in leading managerial journals, including ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT JOURNAL, ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT REVIEW, HUMAN RELATIONS, ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR AND HUMAN DECISION PROCESSES, EDUCATIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT, JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES, and others. His research focuses on the fields of groupthink, group decision-making, job design, leadership, and organization structure. He frequently travels internationally with his students, giving him a unique first-hand perspective on numerous global topics.

Griffin and Moorhead- Is it readable? Is it enjoyable?

I give this 4 out of 5 stars because they create a new edition with no changes every year to keep the text at over 200 dollars, which is ridiculous. Is the book an easy read? I would say the book is a fairly easy read for students in public or business administration. The text covers most of the major theories of organizational behavior in enough detail that if you are interested in an idea you would have enough information about it to pursue elsewhere. I guess this book would only be enjoyable to someone who loved org theory and all the explanations of what motivates people within the workplace. A valuable topic to thing about for future administrators that is often not considered a quantifiable goal. I don't know, not the worst the text I have read. Yes, professors you should teach from this text on the topic and students you should buy the version prior to the most current one for this text. No significant changes from 8th to 9th, and doubt there is from 9th to 10th.

Horrible quality

When you pay close to $200 for a new book, you'd expect it to be functional. The very first time I opened it, the front cover started to tear away from the spine at the crease. Now the entire contents are becoming loose from the spine.

Is it really that hard to make a durable textbook under $200? Such a joke considering the book has only been opened around 3 or 4 times!

Holy Cliffhanger!

I'm a little bummed...I loved the dynamic of Bryce, Corrigan and Sheldon in Jaded, and I didn't love where this book took their relationships. The writing is fantastic, but my issue is more with the storyline. Nothing is resolved in this book, and you are left with a major cliffhanger and a crazy turn of events to start the 3rd book. It certainly is a roller coaster, and Tijan's style is great as always. Maybe I'm just going to switch to Team Denton! ;-)

And she does it again!!! Every time I read another Tijan book, I am continually amazed and impressed! This book was no exception! Awesome continuation of Jaded!

CONTAINS SPOILERS

Throughout the beginning of the book I was rooting for Bryce but after the 'other' girl, I wasn't a Bryce fan so much. I know I know......Sheldon was a b**** and developed feelings for Corrigan (or always had them) and slept with Denton in the first book but to me, Bryce messed up! Sleeping with another girl and then using her as an excuse for some head trip experiment with Sheldon was screwed up.

I wavered back in forth between wanting her to be with Corrigan after all Bryce's crap or just saving F-you to the both of them and turning the tables around on them by choosing neither and going with Denton. I know I definitely don't want to see her wuss out and pick Bryce so I'm hoping for the middle finger send off to both or picking Corrigan. I can't wait to find this out in the next book.

Now, the cliffhanging..........WOW!!!! I don't want to give to much away here, so I'll just say that it saddens me but leads up to a great third book.

Love the book! Can't wait for more to come so please don't make us wait too long, Tijan!!!!

Oh and love the new Caroline character!

It's Official!!!!

I might have to stop reading Tijan's books. Not because I hate them but the simple fact that I love them. I am in my 30's and I get sucked into this high school/freshmen college, drama and love it! There isn't even any descriptive sexual scenes, they are brief and tasteful but I am always craving more. However there's mystery, drama, parties, and craziness. The only reason why I have to keep from giving it a perfect 5 star is I do get lost sometimes with the writing and have to re read a bit. The banter between characters and the fast pace of the book will do that to you. But, never a dull moment.

About the Author

John Fante began writing in 1929 and published his first short story in 1932. His first novel, Wait Until Spring, Bandini, was published in 1938 and was the first of his Arturo Bandini series of novels, which also include The Road to Los Angeles and Ask the Dust. A prolific screenwriter, he was stricken with diabetes in 1955. Complications from the disease brought about his blindness in 1978 and, within two years, the amputation of both legs. He continued to write by dictation to his wife, Joyce, and published Dreams from Bunker Hill, the final installment of the Arturo Bandini series, in 1982. He died on May 8, 1983, at the age of seventy-four.

a really great read

John Fante was a great writer. I was introduced to his books through Charles Bukowski. I have read most of his available works. West of Rome is a great book. It contains two novellas. The first one My Dog Stupid is a glorious tale. Fante really captures the feeling of Italian Americans in the early part of the 20th Century. Some may not like the ethnicity but to me it lends a heartrending realism to the stories. The reader will probably feel the emotions of the characters as they tackle life problems. (I almost feel like Bill Clinton here: I feel your pain, man) The story revolves around a family with kids finally grown and setting out for life and their parents adapting to the changes. The dog that enters into their life becomes a motif for the changes in their world. It is a beautiful tale. The second story The Orgy is not as good but it is still classic Fante. This is a grossly underrated writer.

After reading the classic tale of Arturo Bandini's struggle against the world in "Ask the Dust," I continued to buy Fante novel after Fante novel hoping to find that bellicose charm and straight forward prose that made me laugh out loud. However, 1933 was a Bad Year, Full of Life and Dreams of Bunker Hill did't quite make the cuts. As I read these novels I felt Fante somehow wasn't up to the task of telling the tale all the way through. There wasn't that Bandiniesque immediacy, the unique voice frought with passion and toughness. Well, the first novella in this two novella collection, "My Dog Stupid", has that Ask the Dust magic. Bandini By the Tail. Its Bandini against big dogs, sons in laws, uptight Hollywood lawyers and thankless children. But it isn't without it's heart-warming qualities that shows Fante has mellowed with age like a fine port without losing any of his potency. Always good for a laugh, a smile, a "Hurrah", Fante holds a special place in the American canon. I once said to my wife Graham Greene can write and plot circles around Fante, but if what Emerson said is true that "character is higher than intellect", then no wonder Fante is the guy you want to polish off a bottle with.

Jusr read the first of what I hope to be many Fante books, which was recommended to me by a fellow Bukowski fan. It has been a long time since I laughed out loud reading, and that was a true pleasure. If you like Hem, Bukowski, or any other writer with a gift for a tough, workmanlike line, then Fante is like pudding.
The first novella, "My Dog Stupid" introduces the reader to the harrowing family life of an underemployed Hollywood wrtiter in the late 60's--from the slacker son who makes his mother write college essays to the daughter who "runs away" with her surfer boyfriend for a week at a time, returning to pick up wine and fresh towels.
This is all viewed from the jaundiced eye of the protaginist, who find himself having to decide between his fantasies of a life in Rome, his newly found stray Akita, and dealing with his harried, embittered wife.
Nice stuff.
