Cherohala hiking

If you love hiking in East Tennessee and want to get away from the HUGE crowds in the Great Smoky Mountains park. Then some of the trails highlighted in this book off of the Cherohala Skyway, are the trails for you! The Cherokee national forest is an often passed over to goto the smokys, well thats a big mistake this area is just as beautiful with what seems as though almost no visitors. Have stayed several days in the back country without ever seeing another person. I have hiked many of these trails with the help of this wonderful book. Its trail guides and maps are invaluable, also it gives the best times to go for things such as wildflower displays.

Good stuff

This is an older version of the book. I bought it because I figured things probably hadn't changed much since the book was published. I like the book because, in addition to the trail descriptions, there are also stories of the history of the trail. Trail descriptions include the botany on the trail as well as campsites and water sources.
The only minus is the maps. However, I don't intend to use the maps to navigate. I have my phone gps and backcountry navigator for that.

Best guide for Joyce Kilmer/Slickrock I've found so far

I've been hiking the Joyce Kilmer/Slickrock Wilderness area and was looking for a guide that describes the trails and some of the features I was looking at. This guide does a good job of that for me. It has a little more information on plants and such that I need, and a little less hard data on water sources and land features than I like, but it is better than a couple of other guides I've looked at.
